Receipt Lottery

The national receipt lottery is a prize competition introduced by the Italian Revenue Agency as of February 1st, 2021. For all transactions paid for with electronic payments or any cashless method, all citizens of legal age and resident in Italy can participate in the lottery, under the condition that the commercial document is issued via a telematic recorder or the web procedure.

For the lottery code to be applicable, the purchase amount of the receipt must be equal to or greater than 1 euro.

At the moment, there are two different lotteries coexisting in Italy: the deferred and the instant lottery.

For more information, please refer to the AdE Website for the receipt lottery.

Deferred Lottery

info

The deferred lottery is currently supported by the SIGN IT API on its Lite version, since it is also supported by the Revenue Agency’s web portal for issuing the online commercial document.

In order to participate in the deferred lottery, the consumer needs to have their own “customer lottery code”, which is associated to their TAX ID code. This code can be obtained through the following link.

At the time of sale, the merchant must acquire the consumer’s personal lottery code, if the buyer wishes to participate in the lottery. This involves scanning the lottery code with an optical reader connected to the electronic cash register, or typing it on the keypad of the cash register itself. This information is provided to SIGN IT Lite API through the optional field customer code, when creating a new Record of type RECIEPT or CORRECTION.

Purchases for which the customer requests the introduction of the TAX code in order to benefit from tax deductions or allowances cannot participate in the receipt lottery.

Winners of the weekly/monthly/annual draw of the receipt lottery are announced on the website of the Customs and Monopolies Agency, by indicating the number of the winning receipt and the total amount of the purchase.

Instant Lottery

Through the provision of January 18th, 2023, the Italian Revenue Agency has introduced the technical specifications for the Instant Receipt Lottery. This “new” lottery will not require the input of the customer’s lottery code, but will have a QR code printed on the receipt that the buyer can scan by using an app from the government.

note

SIGN IT API on its Full version will support the issuance of the instant lottery as well as the deferred one. Stay tuned for more updates!
